Here is a brief overview of what to expect if you decide to come to work with us:
Initial qualification includes the following steps:
Flight Check to evaluate your level of proficiency flying a Cessna 172 from the right seat. This is just a basic skills check conducted by one of our senior pilots. We need to make sure you can hold altitude and headings, execute steep turns at a variety of speeds and power settings, takeoff and land (with the airplane being usable for the next trip), follow instructions, and effectively manage radio communications.
Records Checks of both pilot and driving records by our insurance carrier. Most minor moving violations are not an issue, but reckless driving, speeding 20 or more over the limit, and any DUI/DWI violations will in all likelihood be disqualifying.
Background Check by federal security officials due to the requirements of our waiver and the airspace we operate in. This will also include a PIN to fly within the DCA FRZ if you do not already have one.
Reference Check of previous employers and/or instructors.
We provide a comprehensive training program as follows:
Aircraft Checkout - Familiarization with our aircraft including the Thielert diesel & FADEC systems, GPS operation, XM weather interpretation, and TAS systems.
Washington, DC ATC & Airspace Considerations - We operate in the most highly restricted and tightly controlled airspace in the nation. We'll cover how the airspace is divided up, which ATC facility to call when, what to tell them, and what you can and cannot do when you're in their area.
ADIZ/FRZ/Waiver Operations - This covers the extra security requirements that come from operating in the Washington, DC FRZ under a waiver.
